The (ab)use of 'myself'

Why do Indians introduce themselves using the word "myself"? Like, if I say "Hi, my name is Swaroop and I'm a computer engineer", a lot of Indians would respond with something like "Myself Lokesh, I work as a scientist."

 Bharglish Quirk #2: Indians don't just have cousins, but "cousin brothers" and "cousin sisters".

Bharglish Quirk #1: "Can we start the call in ten minutes? I am eating food".

(Maybe they thought I might presume what they were eating was cardboard...)
